Hello to everyone in WDVX land! My name is Mark Murray and I host the Americana Mix show on Saturdays between 2 and 6 PM. I like say that the emphasis is on the “Mix” because Americana music is an incredible assortment of styles and artists – and you never know just what I’ll dig out of the WDVX library. Be sure to listen to the “Feature At Five,” where you will hear themed sets, deep tracks, and even live studio performances. One thing is for sure – you’ll never hear the same song twice.
I also work as one of the sound engineers on the Tennessee Shines show, which airs on Monday nights at 7PM. If you haven’t come to a show, or listened to a broadcast of Tennessee Shines, the Blue Plate Special, or any of the other great live shows at WDVX, please check us out.
I grew up and attended school in East Tennessee. I then lived and worked in South Florida before coming back home to the hill. It is great to see mountains every day - and not have to deal with hurricane season! I am a Board member and Entertainment and Publicity Director for both the Smoky Mountain Games at Maryville College and the Dandridge Scots-Irish Festival. Yes, I have worn a kilt. No, it’s not a skirt.Yes, I have eaten haggis. No, I don’t play the bagpipes. I have been known to play Irish and Scottish folk songs on the guitar, and I play clawhammer banjo, testing the patience of my understanding wife, Kathleen who, coincidently, plays a lot of golf.
